Dances

The VBDS puts on ballroom dances from October to May - one per month plus a New Year's Dance and our annual June ball, Dance Pacifica.  Dances are held on Saturday evenings at Saanich Commonwealth Place (address and map). As well, many VBDS instructors host dances throughout the year at other venues. VBDS dances are listed on our ballroom dance calendar.

Usually there is a workshop before each dance from 7:15 to 8:15.  Recent workshops have included West Coast Swing, Rumba and Salsa.

The Saanich Commonwealth Place has a very large dance floor which is ideal for ballroom dancing.  We play music for all the Standard and Latin dances; with now and then a Polka, Salsa, Merenge, etc.  One or two line dances or mixers are sometimes included.

Non-members and singles are welcome.  Light refreshments are available.  The dances are basically informal, though jeans aren't common, and many enjoy taking the opportunity to dress up.

Workshops

Check the Calendar or the latest email bulletin for information on upcoming workshops.

1. Generally, we hold a workshop before each of our dances.

2. We often offer introductory workshops on Saturday afternoons.  These are open to both members and non-members.

3. On the Sunday following Dance Pacifica, we sponsor workshops by the visiting professional demonstrators.

Competitions

1. The Victoria Clubs Closed Competition is an informal event for VBDS dancers.  It is held in November or December and again in March or April.  Click here for more information.
